Mission: Furthering the vocal chamber repertoire.
A flexible roster arts ensemble of dynamic Bay Area based musicians, Firesong seeks to engage new audiences with innovative programing. We pair an emerging composer with rarely performed chamber music masterpieces.
Recent work: The Plath Project
Supported by: a San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music Music Project Grant.
A concert of world and San Francisco premieres debuting at the San Francisco Center for New Music, Firesong commissioned new works by Yotam Haber and Jen Wang. The Plath Project concerts celebrating the poetry of American poet Sylvia Plath also features rarely heard works for soprano, clarinet, violin and piano by Shulamit Ran, Ned Rorem and Richard Pearson Thomas. Lyrics were inspired by Sylvia Plath’s poems ‘Firesong’, ‘In Plaster’, ‘Fever 103’, ‘Ariel’, and ‘Apprehensions’.
Future work: The Refuse Project is a collaboration with composer and sound artist David Coll.
